ACETATE SPIRIT is an artist’s book that continues Bruno Aveillan’s visual exploration of the memory of matter and the disappearance of the image.
This work brings together a series of portraits that seem to hover between revelation and erasure. The artist uses acetate both as medium and metaphor — a translucent membrane between the visible and the invisible, a filter at once random and divine.
The faces, altered by light and chemical chance, become ghostlike presences, imprints of souls rather than bodies. In counterpoint, the verb-less poems of Zoé Balthus respond to these silent figures through a stripped, suspended language that inhabits a space of stillness.
Presented at FIAC and Art Paris, ACETATE SPIRIT quickly acquired the status of an art-object: both book and intimate exhibition, where each page becomes a surface of revelation and disappearance.
